Paper and cardboard
Paper and cardboard
Paper and cardboard make up about 30% of our waste. It is possible to recycle all types up to 7 times. By recycling 1 ton of office paper, we save 4,200 kW of electricity, 32,000 l of water, 74% less environmental pollution and we saved 17 trees.
Basic types of waste cardboard and paper that we encounter the most:
- mixed papers and cardboard (sorted),
- corrugated paper and cardboard from the supermarket,
- old corrugated containers,
- graded graph paper to remove paint.
The value of waste paper and cardboard on the secondary raw materials market is constantly changing. Its value and recyclability also depends on how it is collected and what type it is.

Consulting business entities on waste management includes:
- monitoring of the law, amendments and changes to the law on waste management and written notification of any changes related to the client’s needs
- assistance in filling out the accompanying sheets
- assistance in the preparation of declarations on the physical and chemical properties of hazardous waste

- Is it necessary to order a pickup in advance?
Depending on the location of the waste and the method of disposal, the removal must be ordered 3 to 5 days in advance.
- Does Interzero install the waste disposal equipment itself?
Interzero can install waste disposal equipment according to the client’s needs.
- Are there multiple container sizes?
Waste disposal equipment comes in several sizes (5m3, 7m3, 10m3 or 33m3).
- Does Interzero issue legal documents and which ones?
Interzero issues all legally prescribed documentation.
- Which waste can be disposed of in bulky waste?
You can put the following in bulky waste: furniture, wood, plastic, waste from construction works.
- Which waste should not be disposed of in bulky waste?
The following must not be disposed of in bulky waste: hazardous waste (chipboard, paints, varnishes, drugstores, toners), tires, electrical waste, food, beverages.

Interzero in Germany alone employs people from 41 different nations between the ages of 16 and 67. Appreciating our differences, meeting interests and learning from each other, we promote equal opportunities for our employees. Our competency model serves for a shared understanding of our values and provides orientation for employees at all levels. It represents the foundation for our vision of “zero waste solutions” every day, without giving up, and striving to find the right ways to achieve that vision.
Staff initiatives for sustainability
Together we achieve more. That’s why our staff actively contributes to making Interzero a more sustainable company. Since 2016 In 2018, our Sustainability Ambassadors hold sustainability weeks, which involve employees in a range of activities such as clean-up days, sharing programs or CO2-friendly communities. The city’s cycling campaign is also very popular. The goal here is to cycle as many kilometers as possible in three weeks in order to contribute to local climate protection and raise awareness of the need to expand urban cycling infrastructure. In 2017, Interzero cycled almost 7,500 kilometers. This saved about 1 ton of CO2e, as well as 675 euros for fuel. In 2019 Interzero saved almost 5,253 ‘cyclometers’, saving about 745 kilograms of CO2 equivalent.
Thinking outside the box: Two degrees are possible
Companies have a central role in achieving the two-stage goal. So what action should we take to reduce global warming? The strategy adopted by the “Road to Economy” initiative< 2 °” is “we achieve more if we work together”. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, it unites a wide range of industries, specialties and perspectives with the aim of advancing towards their common goal. Interzero plays an active role. Together with around 40 other companies, we are members of this pioneering project jointly launched by the 2 ° Foundation and WWF Germany.
Ideas for a sustainable economy
As experts in closed-loop economics, we contribute our specialist knowledge in dialogue with research, business and the general public. One such activity is the Center for Sustainable Corporate Governance (ZNU), a joint business and research sustainability initiative based at the University of Witten / Herdecke in Germany. Here we support the working group for recycling and (further) development of the ZNU standard “More sustainable business food”.

Polymers
Polymers
Polymers are artificial materials with different properties and purposes that are used in all branches of industry, especially for the production of packaging. Basic types of plastics include:
- HD-PE – high-density polyethylene (used for milk bottles, yogurts, detergents and other chemical preparations, canisters, drink carriers, waste bins)
- LD-PE FILM (flexible bottles and transparent bags and colored bags are used)
- PET BOTTLES (natural / colorful / for sorting) the most widespread type of plastic, which is mainly used for beverage packaging
- PE-PP HARD PLASTIC
- PVC DOORS AND WINDOWS
These materials differ greatly in the way they are recycled and processed. The value of materials on the market of secondary raw materials varies from type to type. The value also depends on how the material was collected and other factors.

Charges for packaging abroad
Packaging waste management frameworks are defined by EU directive 94/62/EC, but its application in individual member countries is different – there are 28 regulations and about 50 different packaging return systems.
